Yesterday, my brother and I were at our local zoo. It’s always fun to go there, but yesterday was a special event: dog day. As far as I know, this was only the second time the zoo allowed people to bring their pet dogs inside. We happened to be there the first time and it was pretty low key. This time, there were so many dogs. They were everywhere.
Not only were there dogs, but most of them, along with their humans, were in costume. I saw dogs dressed as Snow White, lions, hot dogs, superheroes, dinosaurs, and so many others. A trio of dogs were wearing superhero capes: Superman, Batman, and the Flash. Their two humans were wearing their own capes: Spiderman and another Marvel hero I can’t quite remember. When we got there, we saw a family dressed as Dalmatians. As we rounded a corner, we saw that they had a Dalmatian.
The dogs themselves were really excited. We did hear barking once or twice, but for the most part, they were all calm. Quite a few dogs kept trying to get to us, to sniff us. One dog even briefly touched my jeans with his nose. The dogs weren’t allowed too close to the animals. The employees and volunteers made sure the dogs were kept far away from the giraffes, for example, especially during the giraffe feeding time. As for the animals that lived there, they were somewhat interested, but not as much as during the first day. I saw one of the mountain lions staring at a nearby dog, though.
Even though we don’t have a dog at my house, it was still fun to go to the zoo and see all the dogs and costumes. My mom was disappointed she was busy and couldn’t make it. Since the last two times have been successes, though, I’m sure there will be more dog days coming up at the zoo.
